Chakra System

Chakras are vortices of spinning energy located in our etheric body on the mid-line of the spine. This energy is known as prana, chi, life force or vital energy. There are seven primary chakras that govern various functions and keep spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health of our being in balance. Each chakra has a different purpose, symbol, color, element and sound. When chakras are open, clear and balanced, we experience a state of well-being throughout our life.

Muladhara - Root Chakra

Muladhara, the 1st chakra, is located at the base of the spine. It is the center of survival and foundation. When this chakra is balanced we feel grounded and healthy in our body, stable and secure, This chakra helps us to transcend our limiting beliefs and accelerate our spiritual growth. When out of balance we experience a state of being disconnected from ourselves and others, as well as feelings of insecurity and fear.

To balance this chakra focus on the chakra symbol and imagine color ruby red flowing in and out of the base of your spine. Imagine yourself deep within the Earth growing strong roots, taking all the nourishment you need, protected and safe. Chant the sound LAM.

Swadishtana - Sacral Chakra

Swadishtana is the 2nd chakra. It is located in the lower abdomen and genitals area. It is the center of desire, sexuality, pleasure and procreation. When this chakra is open and balanced our sexual vitality, stamina and creative drive increase and our intuition is heightened. When out of balance we can get excessively emotional and sexual and our creative drive can get blocked.

To balance this chakra focus on the chakra symbol and imagine yourself submerged in flowing water. See color orange filling the area of this chakra. Chant the sound VAM and give yourself permission to go without fear with the flow of life.

Manipura - Navel Chakra

Manipura is the 3rd chakra and is located at the solar plexus above the navel area. Manipura is the center of power, self-esteem and vitality and the seat of the intellect. When this chakra is balanced our will and personal power is strong. We have ability to self-control and have a good sense of personal honor. When unbalanced one can get manipulative or easily manipulated, angry and explosive.

To balance this chakra focus on the chakra symbol and imagine color yellow fill the area in your solar plexus. Imagine yourself surrounded by fire. Chant the sound RAM and feel that fire burning away what doesn't serve you anymore, purifying your emotions and thoughts.

Anahata- Heart Chakra

Anahata is the 4th chakra and it is located in the center of the chest. It governs intuition and love. When this chakra is balanced we experience trust, harmony, love and forgivenes for self and others. When out of balance one may experience heart or lungs problems, unstable emotions, easily hurt by others, feelings of being unloved or becoming obsessed and compulsive.

To balance this chakra focus on the chakra symbol and imagine color green filling the area in the middle of your chest. Move to or imagine an open space with lots of air and wind flowing through. Chant the sound YAM and feel a sense of unconditional love and trust building in your Heart.

Vishuddha - Throat Chakra

Vishuddha is the 5th chakra and is located in the throat area. It governs communication, speaking and hearing. It helps us to speak our mind, understand our inner truth and to convey it with our voice to the outside world. When this chakra is balanced we can express ourselves and our desires clearly. When out of balance communication is hindered and there may be tendency for dishonesty or hiding in silence.

To balance this chakra focus on the chakra symbol and imagine light blue color filling the area of your throat. Sit under or imagine a clear blue sky. Chant the sound HAM and feel a sense of infinite space opening up for you where you can express yourself fully without fear.

Ajna - Third Eye Chakra

Ajna is the 6th chakra and is located between the eyebrows. It is the center of spiritual awareness and intuition and governs psychic perception and clairvoyant abilities. When Ajna chakra is balanced we can see clearly from a higher perspective and the intuition and clairvoyant abilities are heightened. When out of balance one can become afraid of success, lacking trust,  disorderly and confused.

Sahasrara - Crown Chakra

Sahasrara is the 7th chakra. It is located slightly above the top of the head and is represented by a 1000-petaled lotus. This chakra governs our spiritual connection and the knowing of who we are. When this chakra is balanced we experience a sense of Oneness and connection with the Spiritual realm and Higher Self. When out of balance it can create problems with understanding and retaining knowledge, mental problems, fear and anxiety and materialism.

To balance this chakra focus on it’s symbol and imagine color violet filling the area on top of your head. Meditate in silence and visualize a beautiful lotus flower radiating pure light upon you to awaken you to the knowing of who you really are.
